Pablo & Rusty’s is an award-winning small-batch coffee roaster based in Sydney, Australia. They strive to find incredible coffee, determine the best way to roast it, and deliver an exceptional experience to their customers. Pablo and Rusty’s prides itself in strong company culture, passionate sustainability, and pursuit of perfection.
Manual was tasked with visually repositioning the company and elevating their customer experience through packaging and retail.
The typographic identity takes inspiration from the core of their business—the humble coffee sacks with utilitarian stencil typography often found printed on them. We reinterpreted this reference to create a modern, sophisticated, custom stencil logotype.
In our research we discovered that many customers and staff referred to the company as ‘P&R’. We developed a supporting monogram that could be used in tandem with their wordmark, and wrapped this around the coffee cups to create a pattern.
The simple use of typography and restrained color palette provided an appropriate level of design sophistication, while allowing the cafe experience–and coffee–to remain the focus.
